The rules are so hard to follow that unless you've memorised them you're going to make mistakes, but you don't want to start looking things up during a game because it's so hard to find what you're looking for. More than once I remember us trying to convince each other to try reaeding the rules because no one wanted to do it.

An easy to follow reference sheet would make a big difference I think, because it would be simpler to step through and keep checking that you were doing the right thing, and you'd be more aware of your options each turn.Matthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00848621085539093148noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5311628851429262126.post-18094162319298022082013-05-10T08:07:03.253+01:002013-05-10T08:07:03.253+01:00Yes we were - looks like we misread that one.
So...Yes we were - looks like we misread that one.

So presumably you wouldn't have been playing as many cards in that case, or as you say would have been taken out more often.Matthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00848621085539093148noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5311628851429262126.post-23804097589472525092013-05-10T08:03:48.434+01:002013-05-10T08:03:48.434+01:00Well, yes and no. We certainly were only using the top two conditions, so that's wrong - unclear rules strike again.

But I'm not sure it would have made lots of difference on the last scenario at least anyway. We were pretty much exploring (and so triggering events) every turn anyway, until we found the way out. After that we all escaped within a turn or two so I'm not convinced it would have made a huge amount of difference.

That said, there are definitely others we played where I think it might have made more difference as by the time we were heading for the exits we were split up, so having enemies activate would have made things harder.Matthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00848621085539093148noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5311628851429262126.post-58131855711850555142013-05-09T22:59:13.257+01:002013-05-09T22:59:13.257+01:00Actually the Reference Sheet by Bobby Goodman III ...Actually the Reference Sheet by Bobby Goodman III on that site is even better...Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14807744148587415478noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5311628851429262126.post-30706830923139568782013-05-09T22:41:15.554+01:002013-05-09T22:41:15.554+01:00Am I reading the right rules? Have they updated them so they don't match the ones in the box?

Reading the bit about attacking enemies, one rule can be summed up as:

"If your roll doubled the enemies Toughness, the enemy is killed (put it back in the Reserves)."

As far as I can remember we never actually used that rule, only ever leaving an enemy stunned.

Even more unbelievably:

"If you stun or kill a Guard, draw an Item card."

Weren't we only ever drawing an item card when we discovered a tile with an item icon? It's no wonder we only ever saw one gun!

I can see how we missed these though, the first one for instance is written in the rule book as:

"If you roll at least twice as many Strength icons as the enemy’s Toughness stat, remove the enemy marker from play and put it back into the reserves."

It appears at the end of quite a long paragraph and doesn't actually use the word "killed". Which would have probably more easily drawn attention to it.

I reckon we should play this again at some point and use the "Sanity Sheet" at boardgamegeek.com, it's a lot easier to follow than the official rules.

Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14807744148587415478noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5311628851429262126.post-35757445004276739822013-05-09T22:14:28.881+01:002013-05-09T22:14:28.881+01:00After more reading of the rules, on page 8 it says...After more reading of the rules, on page 8 it says:

"DRAW
At the beginning of your turn, if you do not already have the maximum number of cards allowed by your current vitality, draw an adrenaline card and add it to your hand."

Weren't we always drawing enough adrenaline cards as our current vitality allowed at the start of a turn? So if I had 1 card and my vitality was 5 I drew 4 cards?

It seems that actually we should have only ever drawn one adrenaline card at the start of a turn.

I reckon I'd have definitely been sent to the infirmary a lot more times if we'd been doing this, I used those cards a lot.

Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14807744148587415478noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5311628851429262126.post-77698574591275584722013-05-09T21:21:44.578+01:002013-05-09T21:21:44.578+01:00Hmm, I've just been re-reading the rules on th...Hmm, I've just been re-reading the rules on their website. On page 11 it says you take an event card each time:

• You explore a tile with one of the three event icons on it.

• Before lockdown, you move onto or explore a tile with a reactivating event icon on it.

OR

• You end your turn without having drawn an event card.

Now call me old Mr had-no-idea-what-was-going-on but as far as I remember we only played event cards on the top two conditions. The rules don't make it 100% obvious but it seems that you should still take an event card at the end of every turn (if you haven't already) and spawn/activate the enemies as appropriate, but not do any of the event icon stuff.

That would have made the game a bit harder, wouldn't it?
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14807744148587415478noreply@blogger.com
